Classic Modulation Effects

The modulation section of the pack delivers three vintage-inspired processors: Chorus, Flanger and Phaser.

Blue Cat’s Chorus offers smooth ensemble-style thickening and deeper modulation textures. It can add width to guitars, synth pads and vocals or push into more dramatic, swirling territory.

Blue Cat’s Flanger recreates the classic jet-style sweep popular in the 70s and 80s. From subtle movement on drums to aggressive, alien-style effects on vocals and synths, it provides a broad modulation range.

Blue Cat’s Phaser is modeled after vintage analog circuits while benefiting from modern digital precision. It works particularly well on guitars, electric pianos and rhythmic elements that benefit from phase-based movement.

Together, these three effects cover most traditional modulation needs without introducing unnecessary complexity.

Equalization and Gain Control

For mixing and tone shaping, the bundle includes Blue Cat’s Triple EQ, a semi-parametric 3-band equalizer that can behave like a single customizable filter. It’s lightweight and responsive, making it ideal for quick corrective adjustments or subtle tonal shaping.

The Blue Cat’s Gain Suite expands on simple gain control by offering mono, stereo and mid/side versions. One of its standout features is instance linking, allowing multiple instances across different tracks to be controlled from a single interface. 

This is particularly useful when balancing layered instruments, managing bus levels or performing coordinated adjustments across grouped tracks.

The Gain Suite also supports full MIDI control and automation, making it adaptable for live performance or complex DAW routing setups.

Monitoring and Analysis

Accurate visual feedback is essential in mixing and mastering, and Blue Cat’s FreqAnalyst provides real-time spectrum analysis. It allows users to monitor frequency distribution across the audio spectrum, helping identify masking issues, harsh peaks or low-end buildup.

FreqAnalyst is especially useful when paired with Triple EQ or Gain Suite, giving engineers both visual and audible feedback during decision-making.

Guitar Amp Simulation

Blue Cat’s Free Amp delivers three amp models created using the company’s Destructor amp modeling engine. While streamlined compared to premium amp suites, it provides usable clean, crunch and driven tones suitable for demos, tracking sessions and lightweight productions.

For guitarists who need a fast, no-frills solution inside their DAW, Free Amp offers solid tonal flexibility without taxing system resources.

Network Audio and MIDI Routing

One of the more unique tools in the pack is Blue Cat’s Freeceiver. This plugin and standalone application can receive audio or MIDI streams sent over a network from Blue Cat’s Connector and Fader Hub.

In multi-computer setups or collaborative environments, Freeceiver allows real-time audio and MIDI transfer between systems. For producers running separate machines for processing or live setups, this functionality adds a layer of flexibility rarely seen in freeware bundles.

Modern Compatibility and Updates

Blue Cat has updated the pack to support modern systems, including:

• Native Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) compatibility.
• Improved MIDI CC control for preset navigation.
• Enhanced automation settings with lock, reset and global save options
• Unicode support.

The plugins run on macOS (Intel or Apple Silicon, OS X 10.9 or newer) and Windows (Vista or newer, SSE2-enabled processors). Formats include VST, VST3, AU and AAX, covering nearly all professional DAWs.
